TERMS:
Acknowledgment: Certifying that a signer personally appeared before the Notary, was positively identified and Notary acknowledged signing of the document or that the signature on the document was the signers. Notary will ask “Do you acknowledge that the signature is yours and that you signed it voluntarily?”
Affirmation: Signer solemn promise on one’s personal honor. Example: Do you solemnly affirm, on your honor, the statements in the document are true?”
Jurat: Certifying that a signer personally appeared before the Notary, was positively identified, signed the document in Notary’s presence and took oath or affirmation from the Notary.
Notarial Act: Official act of a Notary Public administering an oath, taking an acknowledgment, attesting to a photocopy, or any other act authenticated by Notary's signature and official seal.
Oath: Signer solemn promise to a Supreme Being. Oath taker can read the written words out loud, or the Notary can read the written words out load and the Oath taker answers – Yes. Example of Oath: “Do you solemnly swear the statements in the document are true, so help you God?”
Signer(s): The party or parties of the notarization.
